New data published by Consumer Intelligence Research Partners on Thursday shows that 19 percent of U.S. iPhone customers reported switching from an Android phone last quarter. That's squarely in the 16-to-26-percent range of Android switchers tracked over the last 10 quarters in America.

iPhone growth has continued,Android-to-iPhone switchers from us

Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook said

" This week that the debut of the larger iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus resulted in the highest Android switcher rate of any of the past three years. "

" In the last three ‘launch’ quarters, meaning the first full quarter after a new iPhone model launch, Android users have accounted for roughly the same share of new iPhone buyers,” said Mike Levin, Partner and Co-Founder of CIRP. “Apple CEO Tim Cook indicated the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus ‘experienced the highest Android switcher rate in any of the last three launches.’ The US switch rate for the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus launch did increase relative to the iPhone 5S/5C launch a year ago, and was about the same as the iPhone 5 launch in 2012. As CIRP highlights, every new iPhone launch of the past three years has attracted Android switchers on a relatively consistent basis

CIRP's data is based on quarterly surveys of U.S. Apple customers conducted since 2012. Each survey covers 500 customers that purchased an iPhone, iPad or Mac in the U.S.

As iPhone growth has continued at astonishing rates, international sales of Apple's handset have become the focal point of the company's continued success.

Given Apple's strong position in the smartphone market in the U.S., where there is a strong base of iPhone-to-iPhone upgrades and fewer from Android-to-iPhone, CIRP's report probably isn't too far off from fact. Apple's smaller presence in emerging markets like China, where it has been seeing very strong growth thanks to a few notable partnerships and store openings in the country has likely fueled some overseas brand switching among previously loyal Android users.
